Apprenticeships

Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs)

A Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is an employer-centric strategy to effectively recruit, train, and retain highly skilled workers. RAPs combine paid on-the-job learning (OJL) with related instruction (RI) to progressively increase workers’ skill levels and wages.

RAPs provide job seekers immediate employment into roles that pay sustainable wages and offer career pathways as they gain industry recognized, nationally portable credentials.

Veterans in Apprenticeships

Benefits for Veterans

Employers recognize the value veterans bring to the workplace but often find it challenging to connect with transitioning service members and veterans seeking employment. Employers see higher retention rates from veterans and report that their veteran employees demonstrate proven leadership, an ability to work well under pressure, and a strong work ethic.

An apprenticeship is a natural fit for veterans who prefer work-based learning models that allow them to “earn while they learn.” Veterans can access GI Bill® benefits to receive an extra allowance in addition to their apprentice wages. The combination of veteran benefits and apprentice wage acts as a financial bridge to starting a new career. By participating in a GI Bill® approved program, veterans can take a major step in launching their new career.

Testimonials

Great program!! Gives you the opportunity to start a career utilizing much of the skill set you acquired throughout your work history…be it from the military or the private sector. Veteran, U.S. Army

ACS is a good foundation to have under you when entering the civilian workforce. As a Veteran, it is sometimes difficult to adapt to the culture let alone finding a job where you can use your military background. ACS gives you the basic tools and knowledge you need to get your foot into the door of the countless working-class jobs here in the Houston area. With several Veteran staff members it is easy to make professional friends/peers to count on. Additionally, they can take the trade you may already know and further your education in that particular field. Allowing you to get a few steps ahead of the curve for an expressed career start.

Kevin Cutler

Amazing people to work with in making that transition from a military lifestyle to the civilian world. I cannot speak highly enough about ACS and its staff. Everyone from Carlos to Ramon and many more have been nothing but helpful to my family and myself. If you’re looking for that next step in a new career and you’re a veteran, then this is your company. They have many apprenticeship programs that allow you to use your GI Bill to achieve your goals. Thank you Carlos and staff!!!!!

This veteran owned company is 1 in a million. Between helping veterans and civilians get amazing jobs at a nice pay is all you could hope for. During my training with ACS I kept recommending this to all my friends looking for jobs. I would rate this company a 20/10.

Apprenticeship Success Stories

Success Through Perseverance

After transitioning from the Marine Corps as a helicopter mechanic in 2019, Alexis struggled to find a job related to his military experience. After a few months he found himself homeless and living in his car. ACS was able to place Alexis into a job while providing additional support through the service technician apprenticeship.

“I’m thankful for ACS… I went from homeless to having my own place. That’s the whole purpose of ACS. That’s their goal, just to help veterans.” – Alexis Felix, Veteran USMC

Creating Pathways for Others

Jennifer was a Patriot Enhanced Operator System Maintainer working on missiles and the launching stations. After a complicated transition and lack of employment opportunities, Jennifer depleted her savings and incurred debt. Upon moving to Houston to be near family she discovered ACS and was offered an apprenticeship on the recruiting team.

“Before ACS, I was back living with my parents and it kind of felt like I was starting at square one again. Now I have my own apartment. I’ve been able to pay that debt off. Now I got myself, my dream car. So, it’s worked out.” – Jennifer Ramos, Veteran, U.S. Army

Overcoming the Odds

Growing up without a father, Victor moved from place-to-place, shelter-to-shelter, and state-to-state. After aging out of the foster care system, Victor struggled finding a job that offered career opportunities.
