With rising costs of living and education there are alternative approaches than the traditional model to gain a career.
No tuition, training is paid by employers and workforce system
Apprenticeships
A Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is an employer-centric strategy to effectively recruit, train, and retain highly skilled workers. RAPs combine paid on-the-job learning (OJL) with related instruction (RI) to progressively increase workers’ skill levels and wages.
RAPs provide job seekers immediate employment into roles that pay sustainable wages and offer career pathways as they gain industry recognized, nationally portable credentials.

Veterans in Apprenticeships
Employers recognize the value veterans bring to the workplace but often find it challenging to connect with transitioning service members and veterans seeking employment. Employers see higher retention rates from veterans and report that their veteran employees demonstrate proven leadership, an ability to work well under pressure, and a strong work ethic.
An apprenticeship is a natural fit for veterans who prefer work-based learning models that allow them to “earn while they learn.” Veterans can access GI Bill® benefits to receive an extra allowance in addition to their apprentice wages. The combination of veteran benefits and apprentice wage acts as a financial bridge to starting a new career. By participating in a GI Bill® approved program, veterans can take a major step in launching their new career.

Veteran, U.S. Army
ACS is a good foundation to have under you when entering the civilian workforce. ACS gives you the basic tools and knowledge you need to get your foot into the door of the countless working-class jobs here in the Houston area. With several Veteran staff members it is easy to make professional friends/peers to count on. Additionally, they can take the trade you may already know and further your education in that particular field. Allowing you to get a few steps ahead of the curve for an expressed career start.

We understand must workers are not familiar with the apprenticeship model. When considering an apprenticeship it is best to ask questions so you understand how they work and what is expected in your new job.
Each apprenticeship differs in length based on the occupation. At a minimum they are 2,000 hours of paid on-the job training.
Each program requires a minimum of 144 hours of related instruction per year. Instruction is delivered through a combination of classroom, virtual, and self-study.
Yes, each apprentice submits information regarding related experience and course work for review by program sponsor.
Apprentices never pay any costs for our programs. Employers and the public workforce system sponsor all costs related to your participation in the ACS apprenticeship.
